    Description
** Welcome **
St Andrew's Hospital is a private organisation affiliated with the Uniting Church, providing medical care and facilities of the highest calibre since 1936

In keeping with our reputation as a centre of excellence and one of South Australia's leading private hospitals, St Andrew's has the latest medical facilities including Operating Suites, Critical Care Unit and Emergency Service. These services are supported by a comprehensive range of facilities such as Medical Imaging, Radiotherapy and Pathology on site.

Situated on South Terrace, overlooking Adelaide's south-eastern parklands, St Andrew's Hospital is easily accessed from all routes to the city.

St Andrew's is accredited by The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards until March 2009.

This accreditation involves a continuous review and survey process, conducted by senior health care professionals appointed by the ACHS, and is only awarded to health care organisations which demonstrate a commitment to quality and safety throughout the organisation.

The most recent periodic review was held on 30 November 2006 with the surveyors noting the following excellent outcomes and achievements by the hospital:

* an enthusiastic and committed leadership group and
staff contributing to staff turnover

* leadership and innovation demonstrated in the use
of data to manage risk, quality and safety.

* an impressive range of quality activities to
improve the quality of patient care.

* the achievement of HACCP Certification in the
kitchen in April 2006.

* the recognition of excellence of the Hospital's
Occupational Health Welfare and Safety system
through the awarding of Level 3 SABS (Safety
Achiever Business System) status.

* cleaning excellence awards (winner 2003 and 2004,
runner up in 2005 in a larger group of
participants);

** About the Hospital **
St Andrew's Hospital, incorporated as a Church Hospital in 1947, now has 217 licensed beds located at 350 South Terrace, Adelaide.
The Board of Governors and Staff of St Andrew's have a commitment to continue to develop the Hospital as a centre of excellence. This involves a continuous re-evaluation of the functions, management and physical facilities of the Hospital. In addition, the Hospital is proud of its activities in Staff Development, its commitment to staff induction and its capacity to offer certificate level nursing programmes and courses.

The impact of technology has been profound in all aspects of medicine. Methods of investigation have made diagnosis more certain and treatment more effective. Patients now spend less time in the Hospital.

Increased use of Outpatient and Day Care facilities and the involvement of paramedical services have contributed to the need for continuing change in the use of physical facilities in the Hospital. A Critical Care Unit was opened in September 1995 and an Emergency Department in March 1996.

Accordingly, there is an ever increasing range of sophisticated investigations, specialised treatments and post-operative care made available at St Andrew's Hospital to private patients. Our facilities are available for the treatment of patients from all parts of South Australia and beyond.

The Board of Governors and staff re-affirm their desire to maintain and develop further St Andrew's reputation as the leading largest private hospital in South Australia, continuing to serve the community by the provision of the highest quality of personalised patient care.

* the commitment of staff to improving performance of
the Hospital through an ongoing Quality program.

** Mission **
Medical and Surgical excellence

"in a caring environment".

** Vision **
"Our Vision is to be recognised as South Australia's leading private hospital"

We will achieve this by creating an environment that promotes:
* Quality health care supported by exemplary customer
service.

* Best practice patient care and support.

* A positive culture based on teamwork that allows us
to attract and retain the best staff.

* Sound business and financial practices to maintain
a stable base for future growth.

* A strong affiliation with the Uniting Church and
its Agencies.

* Innovation and creativity in all of our pursuits.

* The use of up to date facilities and equipment.
